1. Particle size is a regulated parameter, not an operator preference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

EU Regulation (EC) No 1069\/2009<\/a>, Annex V, Method 1 requires Category 2 material to be reduced to a maximum particle size of 50 mm before treatment at 133 \u00b0C, 3 bar for 20 minutes. Size is written next to temperature, pressure and hold time because it decides whether the other three actually do their job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China applies the same logic through MoA Order No. 3 (2022), which obliges operators to process to technical standards, keep batch records and CCTV coverage, and retain those records for at least two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The physical consequence is blunt. A bone that went in whole comes out sterile on the surface and raw at the core. Extending the cook to compensate is not free \u2014 you are buying steam to cover a step that should have taken thirty seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Heat transfer, drying uniformity, and steam cost per tonne<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Heat reaches the centre of a particle by conduction, so the rate depends on surface area against volume. A whole carcass and a 50 mm fragment do not differ by a few percent in heat-up time; they differ by roughly an order of magnitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even particle size then decides what happens in the disc dryer<\/a>. A uniform bed lets air move evenly, which is what stops the dryer producing over-dried crust at one end and wet lumps at the other, and what holds final moisture at the \u226410% required by GB\/T 20193\u20142006. For scale, US EPA AP-42 \u00a79.5.3<\/a> documents dry rendering at 121\u2013135 \u00b0C for 1.5\u20132.5 hours \u2014 a hold time that assumes correctly sized material, not a whole skeleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost of under-crushing travels downstream. Oversized bone does not press clean, so residual fat in the cake climbs; the milling stage<\/a> works harder for a less even grind; ash and protein figures start to wander away from the specification you sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Repeatable batches start with repeatable bulk density<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Crushed material has a stable bulk density, and that is what makes the screw conveyor’s instantaneous feed rate \u2014 and therefore the charge weight in a batch cooker<\/a> \u2014 repeatable. Change the charge weight and everything shifts with it: heat-up curve, hold time, fat release. At that point the process cannot be held in a recipe, and the difference between two batches can never be explained to a customer or an auditor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Single shaft or double shaft<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sunrise builds both. The double shaft crusher<\/a> shears and tears whole cattle, sheep and pig carcasses and heavy bone frames; its cutting faces are hardfaced with a tough alloy, which also lets it cut through incidental metal in the load. The pre-crusher<\/a> is the continuous option for plants that cannot stop between loads. Single-shaft units suit material that arrives pre-cut and reasonably consistent. Work backwards: set the output size from what cooking, pressing and drying each need, then choose the blade profile and screen to match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Maintenance: three cadences, four numbers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
